My Dearest Elyse,

I am still without words, for my love for you was the most real thing to ever happen to me. Now that it’s gone, the void in my heart cannot be filled – not now, not ever.

I am leaving these idyllic shores that cultivated your grace and gave the world your beauty – I’m afraid this isn’t the place for me, certainly not without your love and adoration. The reality is that, once you know what I’ve done, you may find yourself thankful that I’m gone.

Which brings me to the reason for this outreach.

Enclosed, please find a certified check in the amount of $5 million dollars. This is for you. Consider it a parting gift, for your time and trouble.

As for the house, I worked with Shirley Scott here in town when I purchased it – I’m sure she’ll still have all the details at hand. Please see to it that it’s sold. (I’ve included the deed here.) Donate the proceeds to the charity of your choice. I’m sure you’ll make the right decision.

This isn’t the last you’ll hear of me, unfortunately. Mercury and Silas have been poking around. I fear they’ve learned my secrets, and, I suspect, they’ll want to speak to you. Be honest, and don’t hold back.

Lastly, sweet Elyse, my final words on this subject … I didn’t believe someone so sweet and kind even existed in this world. For a moment, you made me feel I could have a normal life.

Not anymore. The only way I know how to handle this is to leave.

And so I have.

Yours,

Carson
