I need a rest. Time to think about everything that’s going on. Of course, I like action, I like lots of stuff going on around me. But maybe I need to stop and think a bit about the current state of my life.
My daughter, Mercury, is almost as busy as I am. She is heavily into the investigation of the “Middle Valley Murders”, as they are now called in the news reports. Her partner, Silas, has far more investigative experience in general and is clearly leading their effort; Mercury, however, knows far more about Middle Valley and is well-versed professionally in the technical details of evidence and crime investigations.
That said, she is in total overload.
Between the ongoing investigation, and the fact that Merc’s husband, Lindy, has for some time been completely wrapped up in trying to give birth to a magazine, he hasn’t had much time for her. Since his partner, Carson, is nowhere to be seen, Lindy has been trying to make a go of it alone; their marriage has been suffering badly, going in the wrong direction for a while now. I frankly doubt whether Lindy will be able to continue working at this intense level much longer, his life will not permit it. Dinners together have become non-existent and Mercury has moved out of Lady Lux. I suggest that Merc tells Lindy to think about moving himself and the Lady Lux out of Middle Valley, but I have to tread lightly.
I gotta help her.
But that’s not everything. Book club is still in my life, taking some of my time but certainly not as much as it could if I would let it. But I really don’t want to lose the club. Maybe I’ll ask Shirley if she could help me out and manage the book club until things calm down a bit. I’m betting that she will jump at the opportunity because it might help her sell Carson’s house.
With other problems eating up my attention, it seems that my partnership with Cassie is proceeding reasonably well. While keeping our individual restaurant responsibilities going, we’ve met several times and we’ve ironed out a lot of the details to be part of our joint agreement and plan for the Riverside. I recognize that I’ll still be fully responsible for managing the Golden Pillar restaurant and may have to get some help managing it, perhaps from Cassie, or later on from Mercury. From my standpoint, Cassie is an entirely reasonable person and it will be easy for me to work with her; I have no doubt about that. I sense, however, that, given my strong personality, Cassie is concerned that we could have difficulty working together. We’ll have to work that out when and if it becomes an issue.
