It’s a perfect morning.

Slightly overcast. Perfect day to walk to work. My mind moves to this town that I have chosen to call home.

It’s still cool outside so I don’t dilly-dally. It’s a little after nine – I’m not yet late getting the Riverside open, but I’m sure the morning deliveries are already by the front door waiting to be taken inside.

Cecil is already busy. I’m sure today’s work is beginning, but I’m sure he’s got it under control.

I opt to go the long way (I can use the steps) and head out along the docks.

I enjoy starting the day near the water. I enjoy the freshness of the outdoor air that I am breathing. In a matter of hours, the air that I’ll be breathing inside the bar will already be stale. Thankfully, smoking is absolutely not permitted or it occurs to me the air could be far worse.

I make a mental note to open the doors for a while today and let the freshness in.

I hadn’t noticed until just this minute that Lindy’s ship is docked here in Middle Valley, first time in a while. I imagine he is working out details with Mercury. Sad to see those two call it quits.

As I walk, I notice two figures, darkly dressed, walking hurriedly in the shadows toward the Lady Lux, away from me and toward the ship. One of them looks familiar. I stop and watch as the pair walk up the ramp and disappear into the bowels of the boat.

Oh my God. It’s Armand.

Immediately, I call Mercury.

“Where is Lindy?”

I tell her that I believe I saw Armand boarding Lindy’s ship.

“Lindy was just here. He is walking back to the Lady Lux. I’m on my way. Call Silas. Now!”

I hang up the phone. So much for peace, I guess.
